Morning routines often reveal more than just how people start the day. They show what gets prioritised, what gets skipped, and which habits quietly shape everyday life across the UK. Drawing on a survey of 775 British adults conducted in April 2026, these findings offer a revealing look at how long Brits spent getting ready, which routines stuck, and where hygiene standards sometimes slipped.

Key Findings

  • Brits spend an average of 44 minutes getting ready on a weekday, adding up to roughly 8 full days a year.
  • 42% of Brits scroll social media as part of their morning routine, and 29% check work emails before leaving the house.
  • 35% of Brits have left the house without brushing their teeth, and 46% have gone two or more days in a row without showering.
  • 75% of Brits have faked a shower at least once, with deodorant (50%), rinsing specific areas (46%), and a change of fresh clothes (39%) as the most common substitutes.

How Brits Start the Day

Not all morning routines are created equal. How long Brits spend getting ready each weekday comes down to one key factor: their working arrangements.

Methodology

We surveyed 775 British adults on their weekday morning habits, hygiene routines, and time spent getting ready before leaving the house or starting their workday. Respondents were distributed across generations, with millennials representing 40% of the sample, Gen X 29%, Gen Z 21%, and baby boomers 11%.

The sample included 54% women and 45% men, with respondents spanning commuter, hybrid, and fully remote work settings, as well as a range of annual household income levels. The survey was conducted using SurveyMonkey in April 2026. All percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number.
