This product does not come in Chrome or Stainless Steel. It is available in Anthracite - a grey satin colour and White, as shown on the website.

I wanted to ask if, when in the upright position if someone were to grab hold of the rail, would the rail stay in place (for someone to pull themselves up, for example) or would this cause the rail to drop down?

The drop-down rail 511960C is only intended to support a person's body weight in the lowered position. If, when raised, someone were to grab and try to lift themselves, the bar would drop down into the lowered position.
