What does Fitted with WRAS approved component mean? What does Fitted with WRAS approved component mean?

A WRAS approved component refers to a product or fitting which can be used with the public mains water supply in the UK as it satisfies the conditions as outlined by the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations or Scottish Byelaws. The regulations require that a product, material or fitting should not cause any misuse, undue consumption, wastage or contamination of the water supply and must be 'of the right quality and standard'. Such components can be whole products (valve) or materials used in the manufacture of products (rubber).

Good but not quite the whole package
* Note these comments are broadly the same as those I made for the equivalent KITCHEN model of the Blade tap * This tap looks is well made and stylish and looks just the ticket within a modern bathroom design. The spout has pretty good reach over the bowl so you are not forced to wash your hands/toothbrush/razor etc. at the back of the basin. The easy rotation of the spout means you have some flexibility to target the flow of water to where you need it to go. The height of the spout means that you can get larger objects (your head?!) over the basin without having to move the tap out of the way. The lever control is firm, smooth and responsive. Installation is a piece of cake. In my view, the drawbacks of this tap are twofold. Firstly, the shape of the spout means that even after the lever valve has been shut off, the water from the horizontal section of the spout drains out slowly in a disconcerting trickle/drip over the period of about 5 seconds. Secondly, the flow from the rectangular opening of the spout is unregulated and tends to splash wildly upon impact any object in its path. The shape of the spout and lack of any fitting means that a regulator would be extremely difficult to install successfully (having found an aerator/regulator of suitable shape/size, the problem of dripping after shut-off and splashing was solved but unfortunately it became apparent that a friction fit is not sufficient to resist the back-pressure of water so it pops out!). The good looks and construction of this tap are let down by critical flaws in operation. If these flaws could be addressed, it would be worth the premium price tag. As it is, be prepared to put up with some splashes and drips if you want the unique looks this tap offers.
